It’s probably safe to say that the hip hop culture many labeled a passing fad is now an international phenomenon. Its influence stretches all the way from its birthplace in Queens, New York thru all of Europe and Asia all the way to Africa. One of the results of this global phenomenon is East African rapper Edwin “Krukid” Ruyonga, who’s been serious about his rap career since his teens. With a style that’s been defined as a cross between JayZ and Fifty Cent’s Bravado and the conscious live feel of legendary Hip Hop band the Roots, Krukid started out with a group of friends forming a group called Urban Thugz and winning a country wide competition back in his home country of Uganda, East Africa back in 2000. He has since then not only done shows both in the States and in Africa but he has also managed to win a few contests along the way like the Chicago Urban League Mic Check contest where he emerged best emcee and was awarded a special plaque and a winning certificate to have his flow produced by Ivan Dupee of Level Next Inc. to be aired on Power 92 in the fall of 2003. Krukid debut album “Raisin in the Sun” was recently released on Champaign Illinois Label Cash Hill Records at the end of 2005. Krukid's US tour starts on March 10th at the Canopy Club. He and his band will be performing in almost every major city in the USA.
